Over the years, YSSO has successfully completed numerous projects that have strengthened environmental sustainability and community resilience. Our completed initiatives include tree plantation and agroforestry programmes in Wayanad, millet revival projects in Attappady, coastal conservation and marine debris awareness campaigns, mangrove restoration activities in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, and youth climate action forums. These projects have benefited thousands of individuals, enhanced biodiversity, improved livelihoods, and contributed to national and international sustainable development goals through community-driven approaches and strategic partnerships.

Mangrove Restoration Initiative – Bangladesh

Location: Sundarbans Coastal Belt, Cox's Bazar & Chakaria Sundarbans, Bangladesh

Status: Ongoing

Short Description:

The Mangrove Restoration Initiative is an international environmental conservation programme focused on restoring degraded coastal ecosystems in Bangladesh. The project supports the provision and distribution of mangrove saplings to ecologically significant coastal regions vulnerable to erosion, biodiversity loss, and climate change impacts. Through collaboration with conservation groups and environmental stakeholders, the initiative contributes to shoreline stabilization, blue carbon sequestration, habitat restoration, and community climate resilience. The project aligns with global ecosystem restoration goals and promotes sustainable coastal management practices for long-term environmental sustainability.


Sustainable Agriculture & Millet Promotion Programme

Location: Kerala, India

Status: Ongoing

Short Description:

This programme promotes climate-resilient agriculture through millet cultivation, sustainable farming practices, and community capacity building. The initiative supports farmers with technical guidance, training, seed conservation, soil health management, and market linkage opportunities. By encouraging the cultivation of nutritious and drought-resistant millet varieties, the project strengthens food security, improves farmer livelihoods, and contributes to environmental sustainability. The programme also promotes awareness on sustainable food systems and healthy nutrition among rural communities.


Rainwater Harvesting Programme

Project Duration: 2010 – 2013

Location: Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad, Kerala

Objectives:

  • Improve water conservation and groundwater recharge
  • Promote sustainable water resource management
  • Enhance water availability for local communities

Impact Achieved:

  • Improved water retention and groundwater recharge
  • Increased water security for local households
  • Enhanced community awareness on water conservation

Success Story: The project helped local communities improve water availability through sustainable rainwater harvesting structures and conservation practices.


Watershed Management Project

Project Duration: 2010 – 2013

Location: Wayanad District, Kerala

Objectives:

  • Restore degraded watershed areas
  • Improve soil and water conservation
  • Promote biomass generation and ecological restoration

Impact Achieved:

  • Construction of water conservation structures
  • Improved groundwater recharge and soil moisture retention
  • Enhanced watershed productivity and ecosystem health

Success Story: The project transformed degraded watershed areas into productive landscapes through community participation and sustainable resource management.


Community Tree Plantation & Agroforestry Initiative

Project Duration: June 2021 – February 2022

Location: Wayanad District, Kerala

Objectives:

  • Increase green cover and biodiversity
  • Promote agroforestry practices
  • Strengthen climate resilience

Impact Achieved:

  • 6,200+ saplings planted
  • 12 hectares brought under agroforestry cover
  • 1,800+ community members engaged

Success Story: The initiative successfully combined environmental restoration with community participation, creating long-term ecological and livelihood benefits.


Millet Revival & Sustainable Agriculture Programme

Project Duration: August 2022 – April 2023

Location: Attappady, Palakkad, Kerala

Objectives:

  • Revive traditional millet cultivation
  • Improve food and nutritional security
  • Support tribal farming communities

Impact Achieved:

  • 185 tribal farming households supported
  • 48 acres brought under millet cultivation
  • Community seed bank established

Success Story: Tribal farmers restored traditional millet farming practices, resulting in improved yields, better nutrition, and enhanced livelihood opportunities.


Coastal Ecosystem Conservation & Marine Debris Awareness Drive

Project Duration: September 2023

Location: Thrissur & Ernakulam, Kerala

Objectives:

  • Reduce marine pollution
  • Protect coastal ecosystems
  • Promote environmental awareness

Impact Achieved:

  • 6.8 tonnes of marine debris collected
  • 500+ community members engaged
  • Strengthened local conservation partnerships

Success Story: Community participation and youth leadership played a key role in restoring coastal areas and promoting responsible environmental practices.
